It remains unclear how marine dissolved organic matter (DOM) becomes refractory, trapping large amounts of carbon in the ocean. Sulfurization is suspected to be involved in DOM refractability. Low molecular weight (LMW) compounds are often considered as less labile DOM. Thiols are involved in many metabolic pathways to prevent metal and oxidative stress. The LMW thiols composition of DOM was examined along the GEOTRACES US-GP15 section in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. We provide here dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and thiols concentrations along the water column.
